Veeam Backup Error when accessing vCenter VM for backups

Please, try to download specified file using connection to the ESX server where the VM registered. Failed to create NFC download stream. NFC path: [nfc://conn:vcenterservername,nfchost:host-xxxxx,stg:email@example.com/servername1.domain.com.vmx.
In our case this error was due to the backup proxy server being unable to resolve the ESX host IP address.
This could be due to bad DNS or in our case an old hostfile which referred to an incorrect ESXhost IP.
Once the Windows hostfile was updated on the backup proxy the issue was resolved.
